A true partnership


We believe our funded programs are truly a partnership in meeting the changing and more complex needs of our community. The needs of individuals and families are so complex that one agency cannot address it alone. Multiple programs must play a role in addressing these needs. Together we are stronger!

  • What is the application process?

    • This is a ONE year grant cycle
    • This application process will allocate funds ONLY to community impact programs focusing on Education, Financial Stability, Health, or Basic Needs.
    • Programs must have measurable outcomes, and must be implemented in the W-SR Area United Way Service Area. (Bremer County and part of Butler County).
    • Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way does not support capital projects.
    • An agency may submit an application for more than one program.
    • Please ask if you have questions. Jill does not vote in the allocations process and is therefore available to answer your questions about the process, application content, or fundable programs. 
  • What is the application process timeline?

    • Application Released: January 5, 2024
    • Applications Due: Friday, March 15, 2024 at 4pm (Through Online Portal)
    • Agency Hearings: April 10, 2024 (In-person time assigned between 9am-5pm)
    • Our goal is to have a 15 minute conversation with you about the program you are applying for. You will be asked the following questions:
    • WHAT program are you applying for
    • WHO is the program reaching locally
    • HOW do you know when the program is successful
    • The Board may have additional questions. At the end of the discussion, you will have the opportunity to share any additional information.
  • When can we expect to be notified?

    • Applicants will be notifed by June 1, 2024

  • All In Mentoring (AIM)

    AIM is a youth-to-adult mentoring organization with a mission to invest in intergenerational mentoring relationships that create confident and compassionate individuals. Each student is carefully matched with a caring adult who will consistently demonstrate our core values of commitment, care, respect, and genuineness.

  • Bremer County Health Department

    Foot Clinics


    The Bremer County Health Department Foot Clinic program provides accessible, affordable foot health care to community residents in Bremer County.

  • Fostering Families Together

    Family Events


    Family Events attempt to improve the quality of life, especially the emotional and mental health of all members of the foster and adoptive families. Opportunities throughout the year provide families with the ability to relax and enjoy fun family outings with others who understand the unique experiences foster and adoptive families experience, enjoying events as an entire family in a non-judgmental environment. 

  • Friends of the Family

    Northeast Iowa Sheltering Services


    Friends of the Family (FOF) provides safe shelter and housing assistance to persons fleeing domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes such as human trafficking.


    Northeast Iowa Housing Services Project


    The Northeast Iowa Housing Services Project provides rapid rehousing and permanent supportive housing to individuals and families experiencing homelessness with rental assistance and case management services ranging from month to month assistance to a permanent basis. The goal of the program is to move a participant from homeless to permanently housed as quickly as possible and provide them with services needed to remain stable.

  • Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois

    Girl Scout Leadership & Life Skills Program


    Girl Scouts gives girls opportunities to develop leadership and life skills while connecting with peers and supportive adult mentors. The program grows and evolves with girls, helping them explore their ambitions, realize their dreams, and become leaders in their communities and their own lives. 

  • Helping Hands Clothing Closet

    Helping Hands Clothing Closet Utility Program


    Funds received from W-SR Area United Way are used to help with the cost of electricity and heat at the clothes closet. 

  • Helping Services for Youth & Families

    Domestic Abuse Resource Center


    The Helping Services' Domestice Abuse Resource Center provides confidential advocacy, support and resources for any individual impacted by domestic or relationship violence residing in the Waverly-Shell Rock area.

  • Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity

    Blueprints Case Management Program


    Launched in 2021, IHHFH’s “Blueprints” provides participants with intensive credit/financial counseling and homebuyer education courses. The goal of this joint program is to help participants become qualified to purchase a decent, affordable home through a conventional mortgage within an 18-24-month period of consistent case management.

  • Iowa Legal Aid

    Financial Stability Project


    Iowa Legal Aid will provide legal services which help low-income residents in United Way's service area increase their income and net worth, preserve their assets, and reduce their personal debt.

  • Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI)

    Families Together


    LSI's Families Together program in Bremer County provides comprehensive, in-home prevention programming to at-risk parents of children ages 0-18. The purpose of the program is to reduce the incidences of child abuse and promote healthy, safe and self-sufficient families.

  • Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation

    Food Pantry, Crisis Assistance, and Extracurricular Activity Program


    Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation’s Food Pantry, Crisis Assistance, and Extracurricular Activity Program provides supplemental assistance to support households with low-income in Bremer County to meet their basic needs, decrease the impact of crisis on family stability, and encourage participation in extracurricular and community activities.

  • Northeast Iowa Food Bank

    Feeding Families


    The Northeast Iowa Food Bank embraces a multifaceted approach to ensuring all in need have access to nutritious food. This approach of feeding families is a combination of our current programs working together to distribute food to those in need in all our communities. 

  • North Star Community Services, Inc.

    Supported Community Living


    Provides critical transportation that directly benefits persons with disabilities served by Waverly's Supported Community Living program. SCL is a one-on-one community-based program providing support, so persons can live safe, healthy, largely self-sufficient lives in their own homes, and achieve individual goals and dreams. 

  • Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging

    Bremer County Congregate and Home Delivered Meals Program


    The Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging Congregate and Home Delivered Meals program provides nutritious congregate meals and home-delivered hot meals to Bremer County residents aged 60 and older. Home-delivered meals are available to qualifying home-bound individuals.

  • Pathways Behavioral Services, Inc.

    School-Based Mental Health Services


    The school-based mental health services program provides early intervention and treatment to minimize the consequences of mental health problems to students, parents, schools and the community. Providing school-based mental health services eliminates transportation and time restraint barriers and allows students to access the mental health services they need.

  • Riverview Center

    Sexual Assault/Abuse Crisis Intervention & Prevention


    Riverview Center’s crisis intervention program provides trauma-informed support for sexual assault/abuse survivors by fostering increased healthy coping skills and daily functionality. Through 24-hour and ongoing client-driven interventions, survivors can overcome chronic mental, physical, and social issues. Through our prevention initiatives, we foster early intervention and prevent violence before it starts.

    Together For Youth - Health Education Program


    The purpose of TFY adolescent sexual health programming is to increase adolescent’s knowledge about their sexual health by providing education on healthy and responsible sexuality through proven effective, comprehensive education.

  • The Larrabee Center

    Employment Support Services


    Employment Support Services assist individuals with disabilities to obtain integrated employment in their community to ensure stable community living. ESS centers on building self-confidence and gaining job skills, while providing clients paid work experiences. Clients earn an income, experience integrated employment, and increase self-sufficiency, while achieving inclusion in the community.
